Neu Destinations: Cape Town

Neu Destinations: Cape Town

For our 4th NEU DESTINATION story we teamed up with the talented @taylabrockmann behind the camera and beautiful @jamillemorales to take you on a trip around one of the oldest capitals of South Africa, Cape Town, while discovering our new FW21 favorite styles from our plant based clothing collections.

Between its rich and complicated past and modern cultural edge, the Mother City -Cape Town colloquial name- is one of the most exciting cities to explore right now. From striking green mountains, to its colorful historic and artsy neighborhoods and the most gorgeous and diverse beaches; whatever you’re into, the "Mother City" has a beach for that...yes, even if what you're into is penguins. No wonder it was named one of the best places in the world to visit by both The New York Times and The Daily Telegraph.

1st stop: The colorful neighborhood of Bo-Kaap in our favorite year-round dress, the Bias Cut Slip Dress, in our newest Crimson hue. Cut on the bias for a figure-flattering drape that hugs your curves, you can wear it with sneakers or sandals on warmer days and then layer it over a turtleneck or cashmere sweater when temperature goes down.

Situated on the fringe of the city center, the Bo-Kaap neighborhood goes back all the way to the 1760s, when numerous “huurhuisjes” (rental houses) were built and leased to slaves. At the time, while houses were leased, they had to be white. When this rule was eventually lifted, and slaves were allowed to buy the properties, all the houses were painted multi-color by their owners as an expression of their freedom. Today, the Bo-Kaap community is a significant part of cultural heritage, making it a place rich in history and culture.

2nd stop: The magical views at Signal Hill in one of our historical best-sellers in a new Silver shade, the Essential Shirt Dress, and the monochrome set that adapts to all destinations and weathers, the Button Front Shirt and Culottes in classic black. Two different looks, but the same effect: effortlessly chic look everytime and everywhere.

With so many places to explore and see, the best spot to enjoy the panoramic views of Cape Town is from Signal Hill, also known as Lion’s Ramp. Here you will find uninterrupted views of the endless Atlantic Ocean, the harbor and the entire city. As the name suggests, Signal Hill was used to give signals in the past regarding weather conditions. When the Dutch established their base in Cape Town, they had set up lookout points in three different hills and Signal Hill was one of them. The Signal Hill was used to send out gunshots as signals to alert people in times of need or if there was an emergency. Nowadays, the Dutch naval guns still exist atop the hill and at 12:00pm, gunshots are fired into the air, earning the name “Noon Gun”, indicating the time of the day.

3rd stop: Our favorite time of the day, the magic hour, at Camps Bay Beach in our best-seller Easy Slip Dress and our newest classy duo the Twiggy Boyfriend Shirt and Wide Leg Palazzo Pants in Soft White. As almost everything we do, both looks were conceived as transitioning styles. From season to season, day to night and a formal to informal occasion, these styles will have you covered all year round.

Known as a party beach, this beautiful, long stretch of soft white sand, becomes the perfect place to enjoy a relaxing afternoon when summer peak season is over. With the Twelve Apostles mountain range making for a craggy backdrop and some hidden dining gems, we couldn't think of a better place to watch the sunset and close this magical trip.

Taking a trip? Make sure you pack these pieces from our women’s clothing collection for a sustainable wardrobe that suits every adventure.
