The Future of Fabric

The Future of Fabric

So many of us do cleanses and detoxes, being mindful about what we put in our bodies, without ever stopping to  think about what we put on our bodies every day.  We might choose certain foods and beauty products because we care about their impact on ourhealth and the environment, but we usually don’t stop to consider the clothes we wear.

Today, we want to eat clean food, use clean beauty products and support responsible businesses. We want our purchases to reflect our ideals and values.  So why don’t we stop think about what we put next to our body --  the most intimate layer between us and the world? Whether we wear polyester leggings or choose sustainable bottoms for women, it seems like we don’t reflect on the materials and choices we make when it comes to getting dressed.

That’s why we’ve chosen to do things differently. While natural fabrics are more expensive to produce, they cost far less from an ecological perspective. Natural fibers easily decompose in landfills, they don’t create toxic and polluting materials, and they utilize significantly  less water and energy during the production process.

Plus, natural fibers just feel better. It’s the reason you reach for your favorite old cotton T-shirt when you get home from work. Our favorite clothes are very often those that are  the most natural. Natural materials are more lightweight and breathable than synthetics, they feel better next to the skin, and they have many properties that can help soothe and regulate our body temperature. Not just our clothing, but sustainable ladies accessories have the same impact – they’re kinder on our skin and bodies, and leave a minimal impact on our planet. Plant-based fibers in particular create the softest and most luxurious fabrics, and they can be produced at a greatly reduced ecological price tag. Unfortunately, luxury plant-based fabrics can come at a price point that’s out of reach and environmentally-friendly production can be difficult to scale.

At Neu Nomads, we set out to face this challenge. We firmly believe that plant-derived fabrics are the future of fashion. Our vision? To create beautiful, elegant clothes that looked as good as they felt. We wanted a collection of pieces that  looked natural and organic yet polished, and we wanted to produce them in a way that reflected our personal values. We are committed to joining the global fight for a greener supply chain -- one that’s also scientifically sound and economically feasible.

We firmly believe that plant-based fabrics are the future of a more sustainable fashion industry.

As we also discovered, working with plant-derived fabrics is fun. Not only do  they feel good against the skin, they also have many unique properties that drive our design and production decisions. Our signature modal fabric, for instance, is incredibly breathable, lightweight and buttery soft, lending itself perfectly to flowing and willowy silhouettes.Working with this fabric makes us dream of warm summer evenings and beachside vacations. To give these pieces a polished look, we incorporated impeccable design details like French seams and hand stitching. Click here to learn more about our signature fabrics.

We’re excited to share our debut collection, made of 100% natural, plant-derived fabrics.  From start to finish, Neu Nomads represents a radically new approach to direct-to-consumer clothing:  created and operated by women with a fabrication process that is environmentally-sensitive, non-toxic and packaged in 100% recycled materials from textiles waste—and industry first and an important step in establishing a more sustainable supply chain.

We are committed to counteracting the vast amount of waste and environmental damage associated with apparel production, including contaminated water from the dyes, plastic waste generated in shipping and distribution, and overproduction due to unsustainable practices. We are always building new partnerships and looking for new ways to do business  that reflects and celebrates the dignity and value of all life on earth.
